Roy-Stanley Nwafor, Country Representative for the Institute for Economics and Peace Nigeria, who also serves as a Rotary-IEP Positive Peace Activator for West and Central Africa, recently participated as a delegate in the 13th High-Level Dialogue Continental Youth Consultation, organised jointly by the African Union and UND

This youth-led dialogue focused on reparation, justice, and state building across Africa. The consultation brought together global peacebuilders as panellists and moderators, facilitating discussions and generating solutions for continental challenges.
During the proceedings, Nwafor emphasised a comprehensive three-pillar approach to youth engagement in peacebuilding. First, regarding attitudes, he highlighted the necessity for young people to develop intentional leadership mindsets and actively participate in decision-making processes. This connects directly to fostering acceptance of others’ rights and investing in human capital development.

Second, concerning structures, he advocated for enabling frameworks that facilitate youth engagement in policy formulation and implementation. This encompasses creating supportive business environments and ensuring equitable resource distribution to address inequality and promote social justice

Third, regarding institutions, he stressed the importance of well-established institutional frameworks supporting youth participation. This includes strengthening governance systems that promote transparency and accountability, establishing mechanisms for free information flow, and building robust anti-corruption institutions.

His presentation linked these elements to the Institute for Economics and Peace’s Eight Pillars of Positive Peace framework, demonstrating how attitudes, structures, and institutions interact to promote continental stability and prosperity.

The consultation reinforced our organisation’s commitment to supporting youth-led initiatives across Africa and highlighted the role young leaders play in building sustainable peace. Nwafor’s contributions helped advance dialogue on creating an integrated, prosperous, and democratic Africa through systematic youth empowerment and institutional strengthening. This engagement demonstrates our continued commitment to continental peacebuilding efforts and youth leadership development across West and Central Africa.
