The Bahá’í International Community, the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), and the Coalition for the UN We Need are pleased to invite you to a conversation dedicated to unpacking the relationship between military expenditure and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Action 13(c) of the Pact for the Future requests “the Secretary-General to provide analysis on the impact of the global increase in military expenditure on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by the end of the seventy-ninth session.” Moreover, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs is encouraging “stakeholders to organise events and discussions on this topic to contribute to the Secretary-General’s analysis.”

It is in furtherance of these objectives that we are hosting this dialogue featuring H.E. Carlos Alvarado Quesada, former President of Costa Rica (2018–2022), a country whose rich experience with demilitarization has had a profound impact on its progress.

Speakers:

  • The Honorable Carlos Alvarado Quesada, former President of Costa Rica
