Twenty years on since the adoption of the UN Security Council Resolution 1373 and the scale and magnitude of terrorism continues to pose significant challenges to sustainable peace and development. Despite substantial efforts exerted by the international community over the past two decades, the scope and sophistication of the terrorist threat have further diversified and spread.

This session is a stage setter in which panelists will review the international framework for counterterrorism and lay out the trends and challenges that emerged over the subsequent twenty years since the adoption of the UNSCR 1373. The session will also discuss the policies and measures that were introduced during the previous two decades in response to the terrorism threat and assess its impact in addressing contemporary challenges.
