Asia stands at a pivotal crossroads. Home to over half of humanity and many of the world’s fastest-growing economies, the region also faces some of the most acute climate vulnerabilities — from intensified storms and droughts to food, water, and migration pressures that test peace and stability.

The upcoming 2025 Ecological Threat Register (ETR) by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) provides a data-driven understanding of how ecological risks and climate stress are reshaping Asia’s development and security landscape. Yet beyond quantifying threats, this session focuses on where the solutions lie — and how Asia’s innovation, leadership, and cooperation can turn ecological challenges into just, regenerative climate responses.

Asia is already demonstrating global leadership in building resilience and low-carbon prosperity. China leads the world in solar power, clean technology, and electric mobility, while India is pioneering large-scale renewable energy deployment and innovative adaptation finance mechanisms. Across ASEAN, countries are scaling community-led and nature-based resilience efforts, supported by regional cooperation and investment. Australia, as a key Indo-Pacific partner, is accelerating collaboration on renewable innovation and low-emission technologies, reinforcing the shared responsibility of climate action across the region. And throughout the Indo-Pacific, the ocean economy remains fundamental to livelihoods, food security, and climate stability — making ocean health central to both resilience and peace.

The session will explore how these strengths can be shared across the Global South, and how North–South technological exchange and sustainable finance can accelerate collective progress — ensuring that the best ideas, wherever they emerge, are scaled quickly enough to make a difference.
