Tohoku University is working to give back to society by applying the international collaborative learning experiences it has cultivated over the years, and is advancing initiatives toward realizing a multicultural society. As part of these efforts, the university will host a symposium in collaboration with the University of Sydney and the international policy think tank, the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), with support from the Australia-Japan Foundation.

This symposium will bring together representatives of universities, local governments, various incorporated associations, and students from Japan and Australia to exchange views from diverse perspectives. With the active participation of young people as a key element, this symposium will provide a forum for considering how to create a multicultural society.

IEP will participate in the panel discussion on promoting multicultural coexistence in local communities and the role of young people in advancing a multicultural society. In addition, IEP will lead a Positive Peace workshop for students from both Tohoku University and the University of Sydney, fostering practical learning and dialogue on building inclusive and resilient communities.
