Polling data featured in this chart from the Global Terrorism Index shows a large jump in support from both Democrats and Republicans in the US who feel that violence for political ends is at least partially justified. In November 2017, just eight per cent of respondents from both parties felt that violence for political ends could be justified in at least some situations. This number had increased to around 15 per cent by the end of 2019, before jumping significantly over the past year. In September 2020, 33 per cent of Democrat and 36 per cent of Republican poll respondents felt that political violence could be at least somewhat justified.
