Award-winning thinking

The Institute for Economics and Peace was selected as one of the top think tanks in Australia in the 2015 Global Go To Think Tank Index.

IEP ranked first in the Southeast Asia and the Pacific region for the Top Think Tank with an annual budget under US$5 million. We were also listed as a Think Tank to Watch, coming in third in Australia.

IEP ranked amongst the top think tanks in three categories:

Ensuring data informs policy and public debate is a priority in our work, and we’re delighted to have been listed among some of the world's top think tanks.

The award reflects the increasing uptake and impact of our research into peace metrics, the economic cost of violence, terrorism, and peacebuilding through our Positive Peace model.

Our research informs the work of governments, academic institutions, and intergovernmental institutions like the OECD, Commonwealth Secretariat, World Bank and the United Nations.

Journalists, think tanks, policy makers, public and private donors from 143 countries participated in this year’s ranking process.

Global Go To Think Tank Index

The Global Go To Think Tank Index, an initiative of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Programs (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania, ranks the world’s leading think tanks globally, as well as by region and research area.

Now in its ninth year, the Index acknowledges the contributions of think tanks worldwide to government and civil society. It highlights the important role think tanks play in informing policy, whilst also increasing their capacity and recognition so they can better serve the public.

TTCSP developed the Index in response to requests from donors, government officials, journalists, and scholars who wanted the world’s leading think tanks identified.

The 2015 Global Go To Think Tank Index was launched on 27 January 2016 at the World Bank (Washington, DC), University of Pennsylvania.
