The 2009 Peace and Sport International Forum

Forum on Peace and Sport
After 3 days of intense and fruitful debates, the 2009 Peace and Sport International Forum saw the emergence of the urgent need to further mobilize all stakeholders for peace through sport, in order to better coordinate actions.
Seven priorities emerged:
● Fundamentally adapting programs for sustainable peace through sport to specific local issues and conditions, by involving local stakeholders earlier in the planning stage
● Making use of the international and regional recognition of top-level athletes to attract disadvantaged youngsters to support programs
● Identifying Best Practices to inspire others to put forward their initiatives
● Formalizing new ways to coordinate and exchange experiences, particularly between International Organizations and International Sports Federations on the one hand and local stakeholders on the other to create a global community of actors for peace through sport
● Organizing Regional Forums to optimize coordination of action undertaken on a local scale
● Orchestrating international awareness-raising campaigns to capitalize on major sports events with high media coverage
● Creating a new culture of “Smart Philanthropy” amongst the business community
